About Me
Good day! My name is Gabrielle Lehman and I am so very glad you're here.
Since the first time my grandmother sat me down in front of her avocado green Kenmore and helped me press the pedal to sew scraps into a "dress" for my Barbie, I have loved the process of sewing. For over 20 years, I have mended and/or made sewn or knitted garments and notions for myself and anyone who came to me in need of help. Recently, I have begun the process of intensive education on becoming a full fledged dressmaker and I love it.
Top Hat Fibers and Sewing used to be only Top Hat Fibers, a homespun yarn and knitting company I tried to start in 2013. At the time, I was simply too busy working as a pharmacy technician to give my full attention to my little passion project. Now, though, I feel I have found my calling.
As to knitting, I am now comfortable calling myself having mastered it, since I've now knitted several custom garments and made patterns from my brain.
Top Hat came about originally because of a conversation I had with my grandmother, Betty Ann Rackley, long before her passing in August of 2011. We had joked about my starting a business one day and naming it after my favorite fancy hat, the top hat, and she said "Well, everything is fancier with Top Hats."
So, when the time came to choose what I would call my little shop, there was no question what it would be.
This is for the woman who gave me everything, but especially a love for sewing.
